Concert Bands
At Norman High, we have two to three concert bands and they are audition based ensembles. All bands rehearse and perform at the highest level possible.
The Wind Ensemble is the top student performing group and meets zero hour, 7:15-8:40, all year after marching band ends. This band plays advanced literature and performs 4 concert cycles per year.
The Symphonic Band is the second student performing group and meets zero hour, 7:15-8:40, all year after marching band ends. This group is made up of younger students, plays medium to advanced literature and performs 4 concert cycles per year.
Concert band membership is determined by a playing audition at the end of October each year. Students are evaluated based on prepared music, sight-reading, and scales. The students with the highest scores in each section are placed in the Wind Ensemble, the next set of scores in each section are place in the Symphonic Band, and the remaining are placed in the Concert Band.
